Ferrite extends the material investigation begun with The Making of the Cube, a self-initiated project originating in a childhood fascination with minerals and the apparently perfect cubic structures found in nature.

The project moved from printed representations of volume into physical matter through cubes cast in bronze, iron, lead and aluminium. Each metal revealed a different density, weight, surface and colour. For Ferrite, these material differences became the starting point for a new translation: from metal into textile.

Developed with Kvadrat Shade, the colours draw from the tones, patinas and surface qualities of the original cubes. Bronze, iron, lead and aluminium become a restrained spectrum of earthy reds, greys, dark mineral tones and luminous neutrals.

The resulting roller blind textile is made from 100% recycled ocean-bound polyester with an aluminium backing. What began as an enquiry into a naturally occurring geometric form moves through sculpture, colour and material into architecture.
