London Brick begins with a single pallet of 390 bricks, delivered outside EB&Flow Gallery in Shoreditch for Gravity in 2011.

The brick is one of the fundamental units through which London is constructed: an autonomous object that acquires meaning through repetition and relation. A brick becomes a wall; a wall becomes a structure; structures accumulate into a city.

The pallet was divided into two works. 312 bricks were separated into eight groups of 39 and individually spray-painted in eight colours. The remaining 78 were painted black. Both sculptures can be stacked, rotated and reconfigured, allowing different structures to emerge from a fixed number of identical units.

Like the individual within society, each element remains distinct while belonging to something larger.
