Waves began as a self-initiated investigation into optical perception and the way a simple pattern can evolve through repetition.

The original structure emerged from photographs that were digitally manipulated and reduced to black-and-white bitmaps. Within this process, a single unit appeared containing a disruption – almost a corrupted pixel within an otherwise regular pattern. This became the basis for a 26 × 26 cm zinc relief plate made for letterpress printing.

Colour introduced variation into the fixed structure. Through different combinations, layering, overlap and displacement, more than sixty unique prints were produced. Each begins from the same underlying matrix, yet no two have the same atmosphere, rhythm or energy.

Together they form a continuous field: a system that remains constant while continually changing — like a wave that never repeats.
